Page 1 of 3 Silage additive for grass, clover and alfalfa (lucerne)
A profitable milk production depends, more than ever, on the available feed quality. High performances with healthy cows to a reasonable price can only be achieved by using high quality silages. Assessing silages on energy content (NEL) or on the quantity of silage is not enough. More crucial is, that the quality of the nutrients in silage (carotinoids, vitamins, amino acids, carbohydrates) meets the dairy cow´s needs.
Homofermentative against yeasts and nutrient losses
Valuable nutrients are being protected effectively with jbs pentolac®. Rapid fermentation as well as inhibiting certain yeast strains, reduce the loss of nutrients and improve the stability during storage and after opening. Thus the profitability of grass, clover and alfalfa (lucerne)silages is improved from 20 % to 60% dry matter (DM).
Active ingredients
Lactobacillus pentosus DSM 14025, Lactobacillus plantarum DSM 16568 |
 |
| Both strains are registered at the European Commission and European Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety. Silages treated with jbs pentolac® may be fed to all animal species. |
Usage
One bottle of 100g jbs pentolac® is enough for 100 tonnes of grass, clover or alfalfa. Dissolve the required amount of additive thoroughly in cold water to a ratio of 1:10. Fill up with the amount of water needed for the dosing equipment. Mixed solutions with jbs pentolac® should be used within 48 hours.
Storage, expiry date
Expiry date of at least 3 years from date of production when stored at -18°C. Expiry date of at least 2 years from date of production when stored at 20°C.
Decleration of Absence of GMOs
- No genetically modified raw material is used for the production of the natural microorganisms in jbs pentolac®.
- The microorganisms used are natural microorganisms that have not been genetically modified or engineered by DNA technology.
- The carrier contained is not genetically modified.

Effects by jbs pentolac®
- rapid fermentation
- more energy: + 0,3 MJ/ ME per kg DM
- prolongs stability after opening by 40 hours
- 15,9 % more natural carotene
- 2,7 kg more milk from alfalfa
- reduces DM-losses by more than 40 %

Fermentation
Extensive tests have been carried out to establish for which types of forage the strains contained in jbs pentolac® are suitable and to study their effects under practical conditions. In order to be able to evaluate the results, some tests have been statistically confirmed through a calculation of probabilities. For example: a statistical value of P < 0,05 means that these results will occur on a farm with a probabilitiy of 95 %. Values with P < 0,001 indicate a probability of nearly 100 %.

A rapid drop of the silage´s pH is necessary for:
|
- conversing sugar into lactic acid rapidly and efficiently (pH 4,1 in 5 days!!!)
- stopping the growth of the main spoilage bacteria (e.g. bacteria producing butyric acid) to avoid fermentation failures
- reducing nutrient losses and protecting nutrients
(+ digestibility, + energy, + vitamins, + carotene)
