Social responsibility-
following in Nobel Peace Prize Laureate´s footsteps
Joachim Behrens Scheessel GmbH has decided to sponsor a so-called "Trustbank-Sponsorship" in Ghana with the charity "Opportunity International". This way our company is actively engaged in the social sector as well.
"Companies should be a role model for acting responsibly", according to firm owner Joachim Behrens. "So it stands to reason to support a concept which has officially been honoured by the Nobel Peace Prize. lt is also very important for us to help relieving distress, especially in Africa."
Opportunity International is a global Christian organisation which provides microfinance and training to the working poor in the developing world. Their mission is to provide opportunities for people (clients) in poverty to transform their lives, by providing microfinance which empowers poor entrepreneurs to lift themselves out of poverty. At the same time the clients are being trained and educated among other things in business management, health issues and HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.
Professor Yunus, one of the founders of microfinance and Partner of Opportunity International, was awarded the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize in October 2006 for his concept "help for self-help".
Joachim Behrens Scheessel GmbH co-founded the Good News Trustbank in the village of Berekum (Region Brong Ahafo, Ghana) in 2007.
We have supported the project "Microfinance for Offinso", also in Ghana, since 2008.
